Abreu's Late Game Heroics Not Enough

On a night where no one except maybe the players expected a win, UNH gave a winning effort despite sloppy play. The BU Terriers were heavy favorites going in after winning 19 of the last 22 meeting between the two. If you were able to watch or listen to this game, you experienced a sloppy yet competitive game that came right down to the buzzer. The refs really let them play in this one, it was borderline Michael Irvin vs. Adam Sandler out there.

If only UNH could have had all their players click at once. Alvin Abreu hit his first two shots of the game but was M.I.A. until the final minutes after that. Patrick Konan once again made sure to put his scoring shorts on and put the team on his back, dude, for about 3 quarters. However, he did his best Lebron James impression in the 4th and UNH couldn't find anyone to pick up the scoring load until Alvin Abreu went absolutely nuts. UNH was clearly looking to get their leading scorer going in the final period and eventually succeeded as Abreu went on a his own personal 8-0 run. UNH, however, could not finish and Konan missed a shot that would've won the game at the buzzer and sent a surprisingly crowded Lundholm Gymnasium into a frenzy.

The game stayed close the entire game despite BU jumping out to an expected early lead. UNH had the ball handling skills of the guy in a pickup game that wears the Rec Specs. We've all dealt with that guy at one point in our life, don't deny it. UNH coach Bill Herrion said after the game, "You just can't win when you commit as many turnovers as we did tonight." Very true Bill, but still impressive that UNH was able to hang with the heavily favored Terriers despite the abundance of turnovers. It was an ugly game for the WIldcats but also showed promise, as they were nearly able to pull off an upset. UNH will look to rebound at Binghamton on Sunday with a better offensive performance.

Honorable mentions: For BU Darryl Partin and DJ Irving carried the scoring load as usual. Patrick Hazel played hard as well, crashing the boards and forcing turnovers.

Disclaimer? I think this is where I reserve the right to delete offensive posts, or anything critical of Logan Aronhalt.

Bias page

How bias is the page? All this page talks about is Albany, BU, Vermont. Last time I checked there are 9 teams in this league not 3. Also, how about giving Hartford for some credit for winning the last four out of 5 games.

Sign This Guy Up!!

Do you have ANY idea how long we’ve been waiting for a Hartford fan to bitch about this obvious fact? We would love to have more input from Hawks fans. Keep it coming!
