Dickinson and Bingo have poor night shooting as Moore and Pride pull out victory
Ben Dickinson came into Saturday averaging 15 points a game. He was the leading scorer for the Bearcats and was vital if Bingo wanted to beat a Hofstra team playing its weakest basketball of the season. Well, Dickinson isn’t going to want to remember Saturday. The freshman finished with seven points and seven turnovers as he was hounded by the Hofstra Student Section all night, missing shots (3 for 8 from the field) and receiving both a technical and flagrant foul as Hofstra ran away with an 82-62 victory. It got so bad for Dickinson that the students (be it not many) were screaming "pass it to 14". When he made his first basket of the game, five minutes into the second half, he received mock applause from the section.
It was a great game for Mike Moore of Hofstra. He nailed down 32 points, shooting an insane 7 for 11 from three point range. Hofstra was on fire from behind the arc, shooting 11 for 20 from the outside. He tied the Hofstra record for three pointers in a game. He also collected seven rebounds.
More on the Binghamton loss after the jump
The Binghamton defense in the paint was very strong. Binghamton had better size and that forced the Pride to the outside. However, the Bearcats had no answer for the outside shooting. On the offensive side of the ball, the Bearcats could not grab boards. At halftime, Binghamton did not have a single rebound on the offensive side. It created a perfect storm for a blow-out. Binghamton couldn’t hit shots and was not getting second chance opportunities, while Hofstra was sinking shot after shot.
The bad shooting was not limited to Dickinson. Guard Robert Mansell shot 5 for 13 from the field. However, he finished with a team high 19 points. Chris Longoria was 6 for 14 from the field despite finishing with 15 points. In three separate occasions, Longoria shot air balls on three point attempts, including one of the following:
It was this type of play that seemed to frustrate coach Mark Macon. At times, he was with his head down, eyes covered, trying to figure out why things were going the way they were.
Alex Ogundadegbe was a bright spot for Binghamton. He shot 5 for 7 from the field and finished with 10 points. He added three steals and two rebounds to the mix. It was the best performance of the season for sophomore. His highest point total of the season before the game was against Army, in which he finished with five points.
Binghamton now travels home for a Monday match-up against Morehead State.

Big props to hofstra for enough unity/noise level to pull it off. Big Ben will be the wiser for it someday tho…

In past games...
Ben would get frustrated and he couldn’t stop himself from showing it emotionally. It’s something he needs to work on. Can’t show the other team you’re unhappy with a call or getting flustered by a mistake you make. I’m guessing he gets better at controlling those visible frustrations as he matures.
