5 Bold Predictions for the America East
We're not really at the half-way point, but damn it feels like half time right now. Students are studying, basketball isn't happening. The last few days, we've had an almost amazing game with Boston University up at the half, but they couldn't extend the lead while Villanova was on the ropes and it turned into a laugher. And UMBC bounced back to it's usual ways losing to the previously winless Morgant State. And we discovered Chicken McBites.
So clearly time to mix it up -- 5 bold prediction about the America East:
1) Vermont will win the America East
The league at least. Buy low folks, UVM is slipping as superior defenses and athletes pick apart a weak offense. However, Brian Voelkel still has too much strength and hustle for AE, Four! McGlynn is still learning about the play, Luke Apfeld is one of the better forward's in the league, and Josh Elbaum is coming on strong. And all of that is just elementary if either Brendan Bald or Matt Glass play somewhere near their potential.
2) But Vermont won't dance.
They're the steadiest team in the league, but will Gerardo Suero and DJ Irving and Edwards/Gerald McLemore out there lurking, expect them to get tipped.
3) Justin Edwards will make 1st team All-Conference.
Don't be deterred by a 4 point game, he's the real deal and there's basically one or two things stopping him from being an all-league player: 1) divine intervention against his rampage over the AE or 2) Ted Woodward's somewhat functional basketball brain.
4) Justin Edwards will transfer.
He's just. too. good.
5) Will Brown will be fired at the end of the year.
With great [player] comes great responsibility. Yes, you Gerardo Suero and everyone's starting to pay attention. And if you have the best player in the league and you still can't win, people start questioning whether they want to open up the wallet for a re-up on your contract.
Gauntlet has been gently placed down.

Vermont
I could see them playing steady and finishing with a good record.
Do you not think SB will be in contention?
MRG, you ignorant slut.....
Vermont is over rated. By a lot. Next year, they’ll be good.
Justin Edwards won’t be his team’s best player but the time he’s played in five ‘grind ’em out’ league contests in places like Burlington and Binghamton. He’s a freshman.
But you’re right, he is special.
What about Boston U? Three top players but something seems to be missing.
Maine
I think we all had a clear understanding that his was a four team league with five teams looking from the outside in. Now we know that Maine is going to have something to say about that, and UNH will be the Forrest Gump Team: you never know what you’re gonna get.
I agree with Oscar about Vermont. It’s so hard to picture them not winning the league this year, but realistically, they need to play a million times better.
